Last week, Fashion Art Toronto |FAT| popped up at the Just 4 Fun Sporting Club building on Sterling Road, an unassuming space with a vastly different vibe from World MasterCard Fashion Week. I had a great time at FAT last year and I can’t believe how quickly this week-long fashion event came and went again!

I was only able to attend one night this season, but my good friend and photographer, Aleyah Solomon, captured some of the runway moments I missed…

Fashion Art Toronto features 200+ designers and artists in 50+ runway shows, live performances, fashion films, photography exhibits and art installations. Once again, I reveled in the creative energy and wildly artistic nature of FAT – it’s confident, honest and fearless both on and off the runway. Even though Fashion Art Toronto welcomes over 5,000 guests – buyers,  curators, media and more – the experience is intimate and laid back.

The 2013 theme, FASHION THERAPY, examined aspects of the psyche which seek resolve through fashion. Designers and artists shared their vision and interpretations of five sub-themes over five distinctly different days: Drama, Craving, Crisis, Escape & Euphoria. I was there on Day 3: FashionCRISIS and it was all about attitude! Fashion and art that examines the dysfunction, chaos and contradiction in our political, cultural and social environment.

The highlight of the night for me was seeing my friend Myles Sexton walk the runway not only as a model, but as a designer for his own M.Sexton jewellery and accessories collection. I’ve enjoyed watching Myles evolve as runway and editorial model as well as a jewellery designer over the past year. His star is rising and it was an absolute joy to see him present his collection on the runway for the first time – hard work and perseverance pays off!

The M. Sexton design platform revolves around leather, chains, studs and spikes; however this season, Myles has also introduced Quartz. Here are a few of my favourite looks from the show:

The M.Sexton show also featured Dutch Blonde leggings (my FAVE), Fluevog shoes with styling assistance from another good friend, the lovely Talia Brown.

Here are some of my favourite FAT 2013 runway moments, captured by Aleyah Solomon:

With five days of runway shows, film, music, art installations and more, it’s hard not to be entertained at Fashion Art Toronto! This isn’t your average fashion event – it’s edgy, raw, risque and avant-garde – so come with an open mind and be prepared to have fun!

Special thanks to Executive Director Vanja Vasic, Media Manager Mijana Veljkovic and the entire Fashion Art Toronto team for organizing another fabulous event. See you again next year!
